I know that this might not seem very Christmas themed, but I think it is. Ultimately, it's what Christmas is all about. Merry Christmas all!! May this season be a beautiful reminder of the gifts we have been given, and the greatest gift we've ever received.

In preparation for gingerbread house extravaganza!
I think I baked gingerbread for about 7 hours today. I smell like a giant gingerbread man!
It was a LOT of gingerbread.
I'm actually rather proud of this picture, it's very photogenic!
Here is the finished product, almost all packaged.

The Game of Catch Up!
I know, I know. I've been a terrible blogger, and haven't posted in ages. I appologize.
The past couple of weeks have been busy.
WOT and I had a wonderful trip to visit family in Indiana and Michigan. As it turns out I also got a bit of a job offer. I'll let you know what happens, but if the doors open I maybe in the market for a snow blower!! ;-) Which I might actually be able to afford seeing as I'd be making a halfway decent wage! Yeah! Not to mention it would be closer to family - I'll have SFL sign a good behavior contract before I move - don't worry.
Speaking of doors opening I find it highly amusing that the very week I get a job offer out of state I also get a request to allow myself to be set up with a guy. Lets just say if one happens the other won't be. Dun, dun, dun! Which will it be? Tune in for next week's episode "I'm Starting To Believe In Predestination". Can I just tell you how much I love the quote below, I laughed so hard the first time I read it...sooooo me!
Monday I leave for our family Christmas/Thanksgiving shindig. It should be great; big, but great. I think for Thanksgiving dinner we'll have around 16 people! That's a lot of food!!! I'm making gingerbread house parts to bring, so we can have a fun team activity. I'm hoping to post pictures - ;-).
Till later!

RIP Vinny
Poor Vinny the Mafia Dog was killed last night by coyotes in his own backyard. Poor buddy. Julia is heartbroken, and the whole this is terrible. They found him not far from the yard this morning with half his body torn off, it was horrible. Please keep her in mind as losing a pet is always hard especially so traumatically. Vinny was a special little guy, and we all loved him.

I Think It's Called Personal Growth
I've decided that boredom is bad, and it's only going to get worse with the weather turning cold. Therefore, I am going to take up some new pursuits. Not that I am under any illusion that I may not stick with them for very long, but perhaps I can convince some other lonely soul to accompany me! ;-)
I'm going to start learning Latin! Woot! Eventually I'll tackle some other languages, but I think it would be fun to have an old school foundation, and frankly Spanish has me bored. I'm also going to learn to Knit. Why knit you ask? Well, it was 50/50 between knitting and crocheting, and knitting is easier to spell. I'm very logical as I'm sure you've noticed. The Library system is a wealth of information!
I'm already working on my yoga, fencing, and literary education by continuing to read through the Harvard Classics. Eventually I'd love to start piano lessons back, and take some more painting classes. Oils this time I think...I mean what's a girl to do stuck in a house trying to save money?
So you see, if I'm going to be a hermit at least I'm going to know a lot! Then maybe one day I'll put that knowledge to good use by harassing SFL.

We're not in summer any more Toto!
I woke up this morning to a breezy, rainy, 40-45 degree morning. Brrrrrr!!
So, updates!
Hand. Feeling better, but not completely healed. It stinks.
Last night we had our first Level 1 obedience class for this session, and I'm teaching it. Scary! It was fun though, and next week they bring their dogs for the real work to begin. It's always mayhem. I feel like a teacher when I was sitting drinking my coffee this morning looking over their homework hehe.
I haven't been doing yoga or zumba between my shoulder and hand, it's sad times!
More updates to come! Hope your mid week hump is going well ;-)

Poor Hand
Thursday I got a nasty hit to the hand in Fencing class. I actually thought I broke my hand when Friday I tried to work and was miserable. I could hardly put gloves on, and writing - my handwriting turned even scarier!
Fortunately, when I went Saturday to get xrays I found that there was no break. I think it's mainly just a bad bone bruise with some tendon and ligament soreness. I get to wear a fun little hand brace, and every day it's feeling a bit better. I'm hoping by the end of the week to be fully healed.
If only my shoulder felt the same. Good grief - I'm a mess! I'd like to have a week free of injury thank you.
Being off work for my hand has felt weird. Not that I've done anything but putts around the house, but it feels like it should be Tuesday or something. I'm not use to the extra days off!!!

If you enjoyed StumbleUpon, you'll love Pinterest too. It's a bit like a cross between StumbleUpon and Facebook - sort of.
It's a place where people make virtual pin-boards of interests to share. Everything from a collection of ideas for a wedding, to craft and recipe ideas. It's fun, and different!
Check it out on a rainy day!

We have a mouse.
6:00am
I step into the garage to grab a scoopful of food for the dog and cat.
6:01am
A mouse runs out from the food bags and brushes my toe.
6:01:30am
I'm awake now.
Conclusion:
I was not cognisant enough to react appropriately. Then I spent the next 30minutes deciding what I should do about the mouse. I don't want to foster the bubonic plague.

Suction cups?
So...I'm experimenting with my cats. Hey, they were the ones that felt left out and wanted a new toy! I saw this at Bed Bath and Beyond today, and had to try it out. I think they are going to like it!
Two Hand Gack is checking the weight limits. I don't think he topped the 50lb maximum
Torque didn't know what to think of the cats on this thing!
Even Polly gave it a try, hey! You can see the birds better from up here!!
Fall is Hiking Weather!
Today I decided to skip Zumba, and hit up a nice little wooded trail close to the house. It's about a mile I think, paved, and no crazy hills just a nice relaxing walk in the brisk morning. I put Torque's pack on, and for the first time added some water bottles to it. I was going for 1.5lb per side for a total of 3lbs carrying. Eventually we'll get to around 30lbs, if I feel like hiking that much hehe. I hope that you're enjoying the nice Fall days before Winter arrives!!

My first grill!
I received a very early Christmas present today. In our family this is a common occurrence. Gifts on Christmas itself? Nah. Haha, we can't normally be together on the day of, so early works!
I got my first grill! I'm SO excited I've been wanting to get a grill for a long time. I actually followed the directions and got it all set up before it's maiden grill. Torque and the kitties were in on the action too. Torque didn't know what to think of it - hilarious! We made burgers, and foil bags of seasoned potatoes. Yum!!!! It was delicious, and I was stuffed. Yeah for nice Fall days that are still perfect to grill out on. Enjoy them while you can!
He looks like the national grill rep ;p hahaha

I'm still a little nervous about this thing!!
Patience makes a yummy burger!
I'm all cool with this whole contraption now.

If I Tell You, I'll Have To Kill You
I'm writing a book.
Not alone.
It pertains to work related topics, but still!!
I shouldn't say anything more...I've been sworn to secrecy by my co-author, but I had to tell you guys. Maybe when it gets published I'll delude myself into thinking I'm famous and sign copies for you. Yup, I think that is adequate retrobution for your years of loving attention and faithful following. OR! I mean I could do a deal and sign a book of your choice written by a better author. Just keep that in mind, okay?

Life Lessons From A Squirrel
The back roads around my house have no side shoulder. They twist, they turn, and people drive fast on them.
Today I was heading out to Zumba class when I see this squirrel crouching in my lane. I will make an attempt not to hit an animal if I can slow down in time, but it's usually accompanied by me yelling "run mr. squirrel, run!"
Now, you should know that on this stretch of road not only is there no shoulder, but the road drops off into a ditch then plummets down a wooded hill.
As I come barreling down the road heading straight towards mr. squirrel he makes a split decision. Run.
I'm sure we've all seen squirrels run off the road just in time to avoid death, but this squirrel was special. He didn't just scamper to where pavement ends and forest begins lithely disappearing into the under growth. No, he runs to the edge of the pavement and catapults himself into the trees. He launched his little furry self at least five feet, and all I could do was stare my mouth dropping open before trying to focus on the road in front of me. I could see the headline now: Squirrel Faced With Imminent Death Flings Self Into Tree.
At first I couldn't stop laughing, the whole moment was priceless.
Then however, I realized that there was a moral to the story!
How many times when "one door closes, and another door opens" to we slowly walk through the new door while longingly looking at the closed one? I think that maybe I should be more like our little squirrel friend. What if I took steps in a new direction with confidence, abandon, and total commitment? Hey, I mean it looked like the squirrel enjoyed the moment being airborne, perhaps I will too!

Ode to Rain
Dear Rain,
I sincerely promise to watch you fall all day long. To sit on my couch with a cup of tea in my hand, and watch the little rivers of water trickle down my back door. I promise to enjoy a good book, and listen to a beautiful song. Thank you for wrapping my world in a gray cloud, watering my thirsty plants, and giving my grass some hope of ever turning green again. To you I am eternally grateful.
Sincerely,
Clair

Today I was doing some training, and I thought - what the hey, I should show you some of what I practice with Torque. It's a little rough, and I wasn't sure if you could see/hear, but I hope you enjoy!

Closet Clean Out
I would just like to share my pride in the fact that I cleaned and reorganized my closet yesterday. It looks so neat I can't stand myself! Even Torque was involved! I absolutely love it!! I took the opportunity to get rid of some clothes that I will never/have never worn which also felt great. I know it's strange to post about one's closet, and even stranger to post pictures of the finished product, but I can't help myself. Perhaps I will inspire other closet overhauls!!

Anyone have some Advil?
This week has kicked my butt! In a good way of course. I joined the YMCA because the cute little yoga/zumba studio near me is moving - I know sad right. Well, I need Zumba, so the only other option was to join the Y. It's been very fun though. My friend Julia has been coming with me too, and we've found a great Vinyasa yoga class as well as some awesome Zumba classes. The Vinyasa is hard, I'm sore for a good day afterwards, and then with the Zumba mixed in too I've been in a perminant state of soreness all week. I'm thinking that I may need to add some pool time in just to relax my muscles. Yeah for cool Y classes! Also, I am having to be extra thoughtful about drinking added water with all this new muscle work. As if yoga and zumba weren't enough I also start my 6 week fencing class tonight - yeah!!! If you remember WAY back I did some fencing, so I'm taking the opportunity to get back into it. How fun! The only bad thing is that it kills your thighs. I'm not sure that I'll be able to walk at work tomorrow. I'm going to end up being excited for work tomorrow so that I'll have three days to rest and recoop before the workout week begins again ;p.
I'll let you know how it all pays off. They say that which doesn't kill you only makes you stronger...my only concern is that it may kill me!

Bored...
I have been sitting for two hours at the car dealer, waiting for my car repair to be done.
Unfortunately, I have to replace the brake caliper and pad on my left rear tire because the caliper froze. While better done than not, it still sucks to have to shovel out more money. I should go to mechanic's school after I finish culinary school, vet school, my masters, and my MBA. I'm very imaginative.
Oh. Can I just tell you how dumb I felt when one of our attendings this week was talking about he's schooling background. The genius is a biomedical engineer, then went to med school. WAY to many brain cells. I'm just saying. I don't really come close. You'd think he'd look like a nerd - oh no he's really good looking too. Some people have all the brains AND all the looks. However, I wouldn't trade. Who wants to go to school to spend 90% of your time working - ah not I. I prefer to be lazy. I also feel better now that I've shared.
I may never be rich, I actually may never come out even, BUT I'll enjoy life - it all gets thrown out when you die anyways!
The End....

Oh my gosh...who wants to go with me!! It's like a fairytale castle!
By the way - there is this website called Stumbleupon. You sign up for free, and then given them some of your preferences as far as your interests in life goes, and then it finds random websites with stuff you might like on them. It's addicting!!!

To die.
I would just like to express how I feel right now. My legs feel like jello, you know the cherry flavored stuff that moves like a belly dancer when you poke it. Yep, that about sums it up. Oh, and pain. The pain. I'm working on drinking water as it should help. I'm also thinking that this whole working out plan is slightly over rated. Why have I come to such a conclusion? Let me take you back an hour....
I thought that this Zumba/toning class was a good idea, and I suppose in theory it is. I mean, when the world infastrusture collapses I would like to be able to haul water, and stuff. You know survival of the fittest came from somewhere! However, on our third cycle of squats with shoulder presses, a 5lb weight in each hand I was not so sure. Let just say that with all the combos of squats that we did I think I bent my knees and stuck my hinny out at least 200 times. Oh, and that doesn't include the 75 crunches, and the side raises that we did. Oh heaven help me I may die.
Normal Zumba is cardio, with some muscle building included straight into the moves. It's just fun!! I am normally a little sore mainly in my core. Well, that was nothing compared to this class. I guess that it's good for me, and I guess that I want to build muscle, but sheesh I sure wish I could get there laying on a raft sipping a pina colada.
The End.

Evanescence Song
Such a sad song, but her voice is gorgeous - I like a lot of her stuff. I think it's a great song about grief, enjoy!
It's a Great Day to be Alive!
I normally work Fridays, but today they called an wanted to know if I would like to stay home and be "on call". Heck yes! I mean I probably should work, but I'll work tomorrow, and when Fall hits we won't get called off anymore because we'll start getting busier. Take advantage of it when you get it is my motto.
Can I also just say that I have discovered some artists this week that I love? First is Natasha Bedingfield - I recognize some of her songs but didn't know her name - I really like a lot of her stuff. Second is Evanescence. Oh my, she could be the sound track for the Underworld movies. Yes, I love that movie series. I have weird taste I know. I don't really do horror movies at all, but give me some movie like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Underworld, The Matrix, Jurassic Park haha I'm all over them. There is something deliciously suspenseful and scary about them without being ax murderer scary. I also think I like the unusual story lines. They aren't your everyday movies. Okay, I'm done here...I must stop.

My Latest Art Project
Yeah! Look at my art project, isn't it cute? Jess 1 actually gave me everything I needed for the onsomble, but I had to put it together. I absolutely adore the picture. For some reason it just (ready for some cheese) speaks to me. There you go.
It's hanging in my bathroom, and has my earrings on it. A useful piece of art, now that is my kind of decorating!!

To tithe or not to tithe - that is the question.
Have you ever really done a word search on tithing?
No?
Hmm, I hadn't either.
I had been taught growing up that God wanted us to tithe, he would bless you if you did, you needed to have a good attitude about it, and you tithed 10% of your income to your God which really meant your home church offering plate. I mean basic right? I think through the years that has pretty much been the standard tithe teaching.
Well, you see I've never tithed for much of my independent life for two main reasons. First, it's taken me a long time to get use to being payed every other week, and never the exact same amount - talk about annoying. Secondly, being a nurse I've worked a lot of weekends, and in the past several years I've also moved a lot so my commitment level in any church post college has been about zero. You can jump on my back and say how God is going to dry up my well like I lived in the desert, and he might, but I guess that's for me to find out.
Sunday I was put on call for work, so I didn't have to go in, and I was thinking that I would really like to start tithing. Now I know this is a long story, but I've been working through a lot of stuff relating to God and religion, and I decided that I wanted to know what the Bible had to say about tithing. Everything it had to say. I mean when should you tithe? Where should you tithe? What should you tithe? Whom should receive your tithe? Why should you tithe?
I pulled out my Zonderman's (massive) Concordance, and flipped to the "t's". What I found surprised me.
First off.
Most of the references to tithing are in the Old Testament. There are no New Testament references that indicate the method, that is entirely found in the OT. The NT references mainly deal with the Pharisees using tithing wrongly, once again NT really hits on our heart attitude.
What I found so surprising was the little I really knew about the history of the tithe. The tithe was a provision that the Lord made for the tribe of Levi who's only occupation was to be in the care of the temple and ministry of the Lord. They received no other inheritance such as the other tribes did, the tithe was their inheritance. Out of that tithe the priests tithed 10% to the high priest.
Even more interesting was that in Deuteronomy (I believe- it's late I'll look it up again tomorrow) it talks about how every year the Lord would declare where you were to bring your tithe (it could be anywhere in the land), with every 3rd year being a time where your tithe was put in a store house for the Levities. The Lord states the the purpose of tithing was to give you the "fear" of the Lord. Interesting!! And that He had the Israelites use their tithe when they reached the place for the offering to have a celebration. They consumed their tithe as a sign of acknowledgement to the Lord - crazy!! He then reminds the people about the poor, helpless, widowed, orphans, and Levities. It's an interesting section and one of the most in depth about how tithing really looked "in the real world".
If you take the OT sections on tithing then look at the NT through that lens it makes an interesting picture. Nowhere is there a picture of our modern day tithing.
Now I'm not saying we shouldn't tithe. Jesus didn't abolish that, however it is all about the heart attitude, and not tied to putting a check in the plate every week. What about a tithe of having a widow over for dinner and using your tithe money to bless her? Or how about using your tithe to sponsor a child? I'm also not saying that we shouldn't support the pastors who serve us, but maybe there is more.
I guess it just goes to show what a little word study can do for you! It saddens my heart though to think of how many years I have had a totally wrong idea about tithing. How often have you heard teaching from the pulpit that says maybe we have it wrong? Ah, never. Maybe this tithe thing isn't just about supporting the American "church". I don't have all the answers, but it has spurred me on to seek more, and I thought perhaps it might encourage you to do some digging on your own.
No?
Hmm, I hadn't either.

Good bye fair locks
This was my hair.
It was heavy. It was hot. It took about 10 minutes to wash.
This is my hair now.

Isn't it CUTE!!! I love it! My friend cut it, and it feels amazing. I may end up going shorter before the summer is out, but this is a great way to start. What are friends for ;-)
The hair you ask? Where is it now?
It's biodegrading. I'm ah...going green...or decreasing my carbon something or other.

Finally catching up!
I did not take my computer with me on my vacation up to Pennsylvania, hence the shocking lack of posts, and I apologize. I'm here now though, and fully prepared with pictures, and updates!!
THEN, as if you can have more fun in one week; I went up to New York for a Civil War Reenactment. Let us pause here, and reflect.........Okay, it was so fun! I even got to see my annual Secret Mumford Crush. Odd I know, I have no idea who he is. Haha, and no I will not answer questions about him. There is nothing to tell it is solely long distance and single sided. Enjoy! (mmm note, I didn't take these pictures, one of my friends and a girl who reenacts too took all of them - isn't she amazing!)
Three days of bliss. Hot, sweaty, bloody bliss. I always appreciate my running water after a weekend of hauling 5-10gal buckets of the wet stuff.
When I got home Monday WOT was on her way to pick up my cousin who was coming for the week too. We had a blast! He has grown up so much, and we had such fun sharing stories, and getting to know each other better. It's funny how sometimes we overlook the most amazing people sitting in our lives - I was thrilled to have him visit at the same time as me!
Torque even helped by pulling out bean ends from the trash and chewing then spitting them out all over the floor!
It takes me about 14 hours to drive up the Parental Guardian's house, and I left July 5th. I returned home on the 14th exhausted, and immediately went into my work weekend. Lets just say there was a lot of diarrhea, and that I'm glad to have been put on call for today. Okay, okay, back to my trip.
First, there was yard saleing. WOT is a beast! I really won't be able to do justice to her. There is ranting, fevered races to the next sale in the hope of beating out competing salers, and bartering. She is transformed into a different women entirely, the world beware! I prepared us cups of ice coffee, because our first sale was at 7am. Yum!
Mmm, and can I just interject here that Northern Summers are the best ever. Morning lows of 50, with afternoon highs in the 70s-80s. Low humidity. Beauty. I don't know why anyone lives where I do, if they knew better they'd run North. Just saying. Now back to your regularly scheduled programing!

See that plane way out there?? We had a bet that I couldn't hit it with a golf ball. I told him that he'd regret that bet....
And he did...
We also went to our favorite goat farm where they make their own cheeses. Oh, they're amazing! The owner always lets us go pet the goats. These ones are yearlings she said, they aren't producing milk.
OH - AND THEN THERE WERE BEANS.
Lots of beans.
(we didn't mean to match...actually I hadn't realized we both wore white until I uploaded this picture)
Torque even helped by pulling out bean ends from the trash and chewing then spitting them out all over the floor!
We made Dilly-Beans!!
Oh, and then there was the car show! I love this picture, SFL is actually smiling! Then again who wouldn't smile when looking at a giant retired military transport vehicle. I'm just saying. Gives one butterflies.
I think I've over done my picture posting limit for the afternoon. However I will post more if you faithful readers would like. I hope you're all enjoying the summer just as much as I!!

He's a cat dog...
Since Thal/SFL was so completely disgusted by my posts yesterday. I thought that I'd post him something that might entertain him a little bit more.
Today was a long day of cleaning, laundry, errands, and this afternoon will be Zumba, teaching dog class, and seeing my sister's sister-in-law Becky.
I think that I have the rest of the car stuff sorted, Yeah!!
I got Torque a reservation at the kennel close to where I'll be for my reenactment in about two weeks (I can't wait!). I'm a little nervous for Torque because he hasn't ever been to a real kennel before. Although at least he's been boarded before just not in a true kennel. It's only for two full days, he'll be fine, and I'm close enough to get him if anything goes wrong.

ROFL
Ok, I'm on a roll finding the songs I love that we do in Zumba, and here's another - this one I spend the whole dance cracking up - seriously.
Top of the Hill Day!
It's true posting a Spanish song - do I know all the words? Nope. It's still a beautiful song, and you can enjoy it without knowing any words. We usually cool down to this song in Zumba, and I wanted to find who did it cause I'm having a song obsession! Enjoy it!!

Marrow bones and Spatzle
This morning after a grocery store run I put Torque into a down on a towel in the kitchen, and let him have at a frozen marrow bone. You know, the raw bones from the butcher? Technically speaking I'd like a larger sized bone so that I don't have to worry about him swallowing it, but the bones available are smaller. Fortunately, I was standing in the kitchen making the most wonderful brown sauce you've ever tasted, so I watched him like a hawk. For smaller dogs people will give a marrow bone as a substitute for a meal. Not so for the beast. You only given them marrow bones once to twice a week at most.
As for my plans, well I'm eating homemade Spatzle and brown sauce...and then I can collapse into a food coma!

The Adventures of Pork and Torque!
I have found the perfect kid's book series!!
We started calling the pig Pork which is hillarious next to the dog Torque. Thus, Pork and Torque was born.
I'll ah, let you know how it goes ;-)

On the Mend
I'm not working this weekend, and it feels so weird.
I wish I was...sorta.
I'm definitely still sore, but I've been managing well with Motrin and hot/cold packs. Unfortunately there's no way I'd make it through a 14 hour day of standing and lifting. It stinks though, because it's not like I'm spending the weekend doing something fun (i.e. hiking, canoeing, letting Torque play, getting together with friends), no I'm at home sitting on the computer, or watching TV.
I will say that I'm glad today is my last day to go feed the farm crew. While it's been fun this has been a bad week for it, and its almost an hour each way. I won't miss that! Tomorrow they get home and will pick up Rooty too. Yeah!!! One more thing back to normal.
I'm hoping to know Monday if the car is actually totalled. Seeing that there is a whole in the side of my car it seems likely, however there is a chance it won't be. In that case I don't know what will happen because it would need such extensive work. It sucks that I'm missing agility class Monday because I can't haul Torque in the rental car. Oh well, we'll wait and see.
It's been fun having DOT here to help me. She's made dinners, driven with me to the farm to feed everyone, and generally just hung out. She heads home today to get back to her hubby, and all the work she has there. We will miss her - her visits are great!
Ok, more later I'm sure!!

Call it immature if you want
Nothing is better than walking out of your patient's room and seeing Ken.
There is a rather long story about Ken, and it has to do with another one of our Fellows who was bringing a Barbie to work as a joke and sitting her down in the break room. Thus, this week Ken arrived, and has made appearances all over. Of course we have to keep him on the D.L. aka out of the sight of parents and patients.
Sorry that this is a bad picture, but Ken even came on rounds with one of our Docs. See him there in his jacket pocket? Hehehe!
Wherever his nose shall take him!
Little Rooty is cleaning my house. He really does root the carpet looking for left over treats, or any food that may have fallen. He does this little grunting noise as he walks around, it's hillarious!
That's my bone!

Oink! Oink!
I'm doing one of my nursing friends a favor by going over to their house everyday and feeding all their animals, I'm also keeping their baby pot-belly pig. His name is Rooty, he's about 9mos old right now, and my crew doesn't know what to think of him.
Yeah, sorry buddy, Torque just wants to check you out!
More pictures and stories to come soon!
I barrikaded all the pig's stuff in the bathroom so Torque can't get to it. Rooty uses a litter box, and I've been told that the way to a pig's heart is through his food!
